Title 2 of this Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) is enacted for the purposes of promoting
health, safety, order, prosperity, aesthetics, and the general welfare of the present
and future residents of the City of Chamblee; protecting the environmental integrity
of the City, encouraging an aesthetically attractive environment, both built and natural,
and to provide for regulations that protect and enhance these aesthetic considerations;
encouraging economic development activities that provide desirable employment and
enlarge the tax base; protecting the public welfare by protecting approach slopes
and other safety areas of licensed airports; of improving the City's appearance; furthering
traffic safety; protecting property against blight and depreciation; encouraging the
most appropriate use of land, buildings and other structures throughout the city;
facilitating the adequate provision of transportation, water, sewerage, flood-protection,
schools, parks and other public requirements; providing for protection of the constitutional
rights and obligations of all citizens within the City; and for other purposes, all
in accordance with a well-considered comprehensive plan for the development of the
City.
